What's Hot

When arriving at the McLean Onelife facility, I make sure to warm up while walking to the tennis court. At the court, I lay my gear down and check to make sure my racket is in perfect condition. After the clock strikes 3 pm, my tennis mates all line up for group warm up, which we first run a lap around the court. We usually do Frankenstein high knees, side shuffles, and lunges. After warming up, we grab a partner and start practicing our forehand and backhand shots.

The day might start off with competitions or drills. Usually, we go with competitions. There are four courts, including the high court and the lower court, which simulate the ranks in the game. Personally, I like to start off in the middle court as I prefer my first match to be easier.

I like using a strong forehand with a lot of top spin. My backhand is usually flatter but with more power. Sometimes I bring the ball up to the neck too, and practice my volleys.

To start the point off, I bounced the ball twice on the ground and throw it into the air. I lower my racket behind my head and make sure to turn my wrist inwards for the most spin. Unlike most players, I am left-handed, so I benefit from serving on the left side of the court.

After competitions, we might do group activities such as duos and dingles. These are usually more fun and relaxed, unlike the competitions which are more strict and tense.

Our coach walks around monitoring everyone’s progress, and likes giving feedback on everyone’s shots. After the two-hour class, I walk to the lobby and that’s where I wait for my mom or dad to pick me up. A hard day on court deserves a break.
